Captain's Pick & Reveal Ceremony¶
It's the night before Day 4 of the Morocco trip - the Singles Matchplay finale. Sarah wants to add some drama to the evening. The two team captains will secretly order their players, then reveal the matchups one-by-one on the big screen in the bar.
What is Captain's Pick?¶
Captain's Pick is a group generation option where team captains secretly decide the order their players will play. Position 1 plays against Position 1, Position 2 against Position 2, and so on.
The strategic element? Captains don't know what order the other captain has chosen. Do you put your best player at #1 expecting to face their best? Or do you try to outsmart them?
After both captains submit their picks, the Reveal Ceremony displays the matchups one-by-one on a big screen - building suspense as the final pairings are unveiled.
Setting Up Captain's Pick¶
Requirements¶
To use Captain's Pick, you need:
- A trip with two teams set up
- Each team needs a captain assigned
- Both captains need PazGolf accounts
Assigning Team Captains¶
From the trip dashboard, Sarah clicks Teams then selects a team to manage.
Each team card shows a Captain field. Sarah clicks to assign:
- Europe: Lars Johansson (Captain)
- Internationals: Emma Roberts (Captain)
The Captain's Pick Process¶
Step 1: Enable Captain's Pick for the Day¶
When generating groups for a trip day, Sarah selects Captain's Pick as the algorithm:
The page shows the submission status for each team:
| Team | Captain | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Europe | Lars Johansson | Waiting... |
| Internationals | Emma Roberts | Waiting... |
Step 2: Captains Submit Their Picks (Secretly)¶
Each captain receives access to a private pick page. They see only their own team members.
Lars logs in and navigates to Trips → Morocco → Day 4 → Captain's Pick.
He sees his 6 team members and can drag and drop to order them:
- Sophie Anderson (14.2 HCP) - Will face #1 from Internationals
- Elena Garcia (8.7 HCP)
- Marco Rossi (12.4 HCP)
- Ingrid Muller (28.5 HCP)
- Patrick O'Brien (18.6 HCP)
- Lars Johansson (4.8 HCP) - Anchoring at #6
Strategic Consideration
Many captains put their strongest player at #6 (the "anchor" position) - this is the last match revealed and often decides the overall result.
Step 3: Submit and Lock¶
Once happy with the order, Lars clicks Submit Picks.
No Changes After Submission
Once submitted, picks cannot be changed. The captain sees a confirmation and the status updates to "Submitted".
Both captains must submit before the reveal can begin. Neither can see the other's picks.
Step 4: Start the Reveal Ceremony¶
Once both captains have submitted, Sarah (the trip organiser) can start the reveal.
From the trip day page, she clicks Start Reveal Ceremony.
The Reveal Ceremony¶
Setting Up the Big Screen¶
The reveal ceremony is designed to be projected in the bar or restaurant. Sarah:
- Connects a laptop to the projector/TV
- Opens the reveal ceremony page
- Goes full-screen (F11 or browser menu)
Revealing the Pairings¶
Sarah presses SPACE or clicks to start the reveal sequence.
The reveal order:
- Match 1 is revealed first
- Continues through to Match 6
- Each pairing auto-reveals after the previous one
Each reveal shows:
- Both players' photos (if uploaded)

The Animation¶
Each pairing reveals with a 3D card flip animation:
- Cards start face-down with team colours
- Press SPACE to start - the first pairing flips to reveal the players
- Pause for crowd reaction (~4 seconds between each)
- Next pairing auto-reveals
Need more time? Press SPACE or click anytime to pause the reveal for banter and discussion. Press again to resume.
After the Reveal¶
Once all pairings are revealed, groups are generated automatically and a completion screen appears with confetti!
The summary shows all matches:

Players can see who they're matched against and which group they're in.

When to Use Captain's Pick¶
Captain's Pick works best for:
